LETTER: Busy park and school should have traffic calming before Langley recreation centre

Brookswood resident wonders why traffic calming has not been added to Noel Booth Park and nearby elementary

Dear Editor,
I’m at a loss to understand the reason that speed bumps have been installed in front of the George Preston Arena on 42 Avenue in Brookswood
It’s not a park zone or a school zone, and living just down the street from the arena and driving along there daily, often many times daily, I have not seen what I would deem excessive speeds.
Nor can I recall accidents at the points of access and egress for the arena and the adjacent streets, 206S, 207 and 207A. The parking lot is the site of late night driving antics and controls of those activities would be welcome.
Meanwhile, 36th Avenue at Noel Booth Park has no traffic calming nor speed control measures, and it is a route where from dawn to dusk traffic races by.
Even at times where the park is heavily used during sporting events and users are parked along the street, and when parents are dropping off or picking up children from Noel Booth Elementary School, traffic speeds along 36th well in excess of posted limits.
So, what qualifies George Preston Arena for the speed bumps where there seems no need, but not Noel Booth Park where clearly a need exists?
What or where should the Township’s priority be here?
Cam Lochhead, Brookswood
