The Chilliwack Chiefs are planning a busy summer for their development programs.
The Chiefs Hockey Academy junior programs are set to kick-off July 2 and run for six weeks. The three-day-a-week camp is open to players in the U11, U13, U15 and U18 age groups with players of all skill-levels able to join.
All the programs are run by various members of the Chiefs coaching/training staff including head coach Brian Maloney, as well as associate coaches Brad Rihela and Andrew Shaw. The camp will also feature Edmonton Oilers prospect Jake Chiasson.
In addition to the junior programs, as of Monday (June 24) the academy announced a new three-day back-to-school program for players in the U7 and U9 age groups. Many of the staff members overseeing the junior programs will also be in charge of the late-summer camp, with various Chiefs players also making on-ice appearances.
The program will also see the young players take part in an ‘introduction to training and nutrition’ program, headed by Chiefs off-ice trainers at the Coliseum’s Training Shed, Kirsten Hijdra and Cheya Grant. The introductory course will expose kids to the importance good fitness and nutrition habits provide.
On the Chiefs hockey side, the club plans on hosting a U15 AAA showcase camp, as well as their annual ID camps, with more information still yet to be released.
“Our main goal here is to ensure we are using every resource at our disposal to offer the best development options in the region for all ages,” said Brad Rihela, Chiefs associate coach and director of hockey development.
