VIDEO: Langley graduates visit their elementary and middle schools

Grad Walks have become a tradition in the Langley School District

Aldergrove and Langley graduates went back to their old elementary and middle schools for a visit in the last weeks of June, as is a unique tradition within the Langley School District.

Each year, graduates don their caps and gowns and return via bus to their former schools where they are met with cheers, flowers, and homemade signs from young students.

The Grad Walks give graduates the chance to walk their old hallways and visit with teachers, staff, and administrators who helped them along their educational journey.

Grads were very excited to come back and see their teachers, said Virinder Braich, principal of Aldergrove Community Secondary (ACSS).

"It's also inspiring for the kids that are at the school right now, all the little kids that get to see all these grads come back – it's amazing," he said.

"They're all excited to share their happiness with the teachers that they had in elementary school."

ACSS graduate student Landrei said it was emotional to reflect on old times and see how far he and his classmates have come along.

"It's [also] really exciting and motivating to see how far we've come," he added.

Grad student Kieryn from ACSS said it brought back a lot of memories.

"This is just so nostalgic," she commented.

Braich said it's a way to connect students with those graduating to inspire them about their futures.

Grad Walks were also held by Langley Fundamental Middle & Secondary and Langley Secondary.
