Ambulances full of donations from two Kimz Angels food drives

Fill the Ambulance events were held in Aldergrove and Murrayville

Kimz Angels second annual summer Fill the Ambulance food drives saw two trucks full of food and clothes, plus $1,310 raised in total at the two drives in Aldergrove and Murrayville.

The funds, food, and clothes will help feed those experiencing homelessness and low-income seniors.

Founder Kim Snow noted that she can tell shoppers are also struggling.

"Food donations are a lot less than previous years, but we are thankful to be able to keep up with the demand," she said.

Snow started holding a second food drive in the summer last year, in addition to Kimz Angels winter drive, because people aren't all able to "make ends meet."

Last year, Snow estimated the overall number of clients they support has increased substantially from 250 to 500 since the COVID-19 pandemic began to ease.

Snow thinks the economic aftershocks of the pandemic are hurting people on limited incomes who struggle to cover the rising cost of food and accommodation.

“Prices are unreal,” Snow remarked.

“It’s not that they don’t have jobs, they do, [but] by the time they pay their rent, they can’t afford to go get, as they call it, luxuries, and we call it staples,” Snow explained.

Kimz Angels accepts donations year-round, and Snow encourages people to drop off food or clothing at the Langley Vineyard Church at 5708 Glover Rd.
