The Vernon Vipers kick off a three-game B.C. Hockey League Alberta road trip with what could be a tight contest.
The Snakes are in Spruce Grove to play the Saints tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 4. Spruce Grove has won the previous two meetings this year, 3-2 in Vernon and 5-4 at home, and all but one of the six career matchups between the two squads has been decided by a goal.
The other was a 4-2 Vipers win at Kal Tire Place in 2024-25.
Vernon is trying to snap an eight-game losing streak, and the Vipers have yet to win a contest in 2026.
The Saints finished a four-game road swing with a weekend split in Cranbrook against the Bucks, which included finishing the trip with an 8-2 romp over the Bucks.
After a travel day Thursday, Vernon will play the Crusaders in Sherwood Park Friday, Feb. 6. The Vipers are 0-3 against the Crusaders this year, and have never beaten Sherwood Park in seven attempts.
The trip concludes Saturday with a date in Blackfalds against the Bulldogs. Vernon’s last victory was a 5-4 overtime decision Dec. 20 against Blackfalds at Kal Tire Place.
Overall, Vernon is 3-2 against the Bulldogs.
The Snakes are fifth in the five-team Interior West Division with an 8-22-6-0 mark for 22 points, six points behind Cranbrook. While Vernon has two games in hand, the Bucks have four more wins.
The Bulldogs (26-11-1-0) begin the week in first place in the Interior East with 53 points, five more than the Brooks Bandits. Sherwood Park (20-13-3-0) is third, 10 points out of top spot. The Saints are fourth at 19-17-1-0, four points behind the Crusaders, and five points up on the fifth-place Okotoks Oilers (16-18-1-1).
